seborreah

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 17, 2001 7:23 am

My son was diagnosed with seboreah of the face. Every spring and fall he gets this condition and in the winter and summer it subsides. It is red, scaly and itchy and contained primarily to the area around the nose. He was given a coritsone cream and fungal cream. The routine worked for two years. This year it is more stubborn. He went to a new doctor who rediagnosed him and is treating him with antibiotics, cortisone cream, and a glycolic face wash. The doctor said he doesn't know why it is seasonal. I think the first doctor was right and I'm worried the minocine will make the fungal condition worse.

Antibiotics are not used to treat seborrhea. As an aside, tetracycline type antibiotics, such as minocycline, should not be given to kids younger than 10 or 11 as it can permanently discolor their teeth. If your son is older htan that, there is no concern there. I recommend twice daily aloe vera gel, topical antifungal creams and perhaps MSM lotion from the health food store. He can alos take vitamin supplements, such as zinc 50 mg daily, flaxseed oil and B complex. From my point of view, I recommend minimizing cortisone use and oral antibiotics.
