HELP!!

Post a new topicby tenderly on Thu Nov 29, 2007 6:39 am

Please anybody out there who could give me an advise.....my dad developed a drug allergy to an oral antibiotic. It was a delayed reaction as my dad finished the course before developing the symptoms. Started the symptoms of rashes and itching and had swelling as well. Have seen a dermatologist and he was put on steroids and some creams or emollients. Had skin biopsy as well confirming that it was a drug allergy. The dose of the steroid has been tapered down until he totally stopped taking them as advised by the doc. Then this started again the skin redness and the rashes after discontinuation of the steroid. We ended up seeking the advise of two more dermatologists. My dad started taking again the steroid and the symptoms disappeared. He finished the steroid and the symptoms reappearing again. When this happen, he can't sleep, he develops fever, and not feel right at all. Worst we are the enemy as he is having mood swings. My dad is 67 and the doc won't recommend long term steroid therapy. My dad is too upset about it and i'm worried to death as well.

Please does anybody have an idea of how to deal with this. Any recommendations of particular creams or ointments. I really would appreciate it very much!!!

Thanks a lot in advance!!!!
