Re: Violent excessive coughing boutsDear Benjamin,
I have had chronic cough for over 26 years. After every work up and treatment known, which didn't work , I finally found doctors who believe there is a condition called laryngeal sensory neuropathy. It is also known as vagal neuropathy. I still cough some, but the coughing fits have almost stopped. It feels like a miracle. I currently take Ultram(Tramadol). Gabapentin also worked, but the Ultram does better. I understand what you have gone through. I was treated for asthma, allergies, gerd (even had the operation that stops gerd), vocal cord dysfunction. I tried acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, hypnosis, reflexology, and therapy. I saw multiple ENT's, pulmonologists, allergists,GP's. Apparently Ultram calms the cough reflex. Hope you find something that works for you.
